OWENS CORNING PLATINUM PREFERRED
Bigfoot is an Owens Corning Platinum Preferred Contractor.
It is the highest tier of the Owens Corning contractor network — held by roughly the top 1% of roofing contractors nationwide, and extended by invitation only. For a Florida homeowner, it changes what warranty you can be offered and who stands behind the work.
What the credential actually requires
Plenty of roofing credentials are a form to fill out and a fee to pay. This one works differently, and the difference is the whole point.
Platinum Preferred is extended by invitation. Owens Corning offers it to contractors whose installation quality and customer outcomes already meet the standard — which is why the credential cannot simply be bought.
Of the roofing contractors operating in the United States, only about one in a hundred holds Platinum Preferred status.
Florida state licensing and minimum insurance coverage must remain active and in force — not just at the time of approval, but continuously.
The status is audited, not awarded once. Installation quality, training, and customer satisfaction are reassessed — and the credential can be lost.
Where Platinum Protection sits
Owens Corning warranty coverage runs in tiers. Which tier your roof can qualify for depends on who installs it.
- Standard Protection
Baseline material coverage that comes with the shingles themselves.
- System Protection
Coverage extended across the components of the roofing system, not just the shingles.
- Preferred Protection
Extended coverage that begins to include workmanship.
- Platinum Protection Bigfoot can offer this
50-year material coverage plus 25 years of workmanship — backed by Owens Corning directly. Available only through Platinum Preferred contractors.
The Platinum Protection warranty
The Platinum Protection Roofing System Limited Warranty covers materials for 50 years and workmanship for 25 years. Industry-standard workmanship coverage is one to two years, so the workmanship term is where the real difference shows up.
What separates it from an ordinary contractor guarantee is who is behind it. Platinum Protection is backed by Owens Corning directly — not by the installing contractor alone. If a workmanship issue surfaces years from now, your coverage does not depend on that company still being in business.
It is available only through Platinum Preferred contractors, which is the practical reason the credential matters to a homeowner rather than just to a roofer.
What it means for your project
- Complete systems, not mixed componentsUnderlayment, starter strip, field shingles, hip and ridge, and ventilation engineered to work together. Complete systems are what qualify a roof for the strongest coverage — and they remove the failure points that show up first under Florida heat, UV load, and wind.
- Crews trained on current specOngoing manufacturer training keeps installation current with Florida building code and product changes, rather than relying on how it was done five years ago.
- Warranty registered and closed outWe register your warranty, close the permit, and hand over the documentation — wind mitigation report and Certificate of Completion included.
- A credential that can be checkedPlatinum Preferred status is verifiable through Owens Corning. It is not a logo a contractor can simply put on a truck.

Look for the Pink Panther.
Right Roof. Right Roofer. is Owens Corning's promise, and the Pink Panther has fronted it for decades. When you see that mark alongside the Platinum Preferred badge, it is a signal the contractor has been vetted by the manufacturer — not a decoration.
